FOOD?

Amazingly unique flavours that I do not get to try often. I would recommend getting the mixed platter to share between a group of friends as you get to try a variety of dishes. The base of the dish is covered in Injera bread which wasn’t quite what I was expected on first glance. It had the texture of a thick crepe but a bit sour and served at room temperature rather than hot.

Cutlery is not given unless asked for so I used my hands to eat for the majority of the time until it got too messy. A worthwhile and fun experience – when in Rome!

An insight into a different cuisine not so common in Australia. I will definitely bring my friends and family to The Abysinnian as the concept and tasty flavour combinations is worth sharing!

SERVICE?

Quite average. Our waitress seemed to be a bit lost at times but nothing to really complain about.

AMBIENCE?

Decor is African inspired and added to the cultural feel of the restaurant. Seems to be relatively popular amongst locals and with groups of people.

VALUE?

Prices are reasonable ranging from about $15 to $25. The combination platters are about the same price per person. The Abysinnian is BYO wine only with a corkage charge of $8.

BOOKINGS?

A relatively small sized restaurant so best to book a table beforehand.
