FOOD?

Jones the Grocer is my first choice if I’m heading to Chadstone for some retail therapy and am after a decent meal. I love the crispy chips cooked in olive oil as a side even though it is probably not the best for my waistline. Some of the dishes are a bit hit and miss. My favourites would be the two above: the ‘Jones Wagyu Burger’ and ‘Beer Battered Rockling’. The burger is juicy and each mouthful is packed with flavour, and the pea puree is tasty and adds that extra element to the standard fish & chip dish.

If you’re hungry, I’d stay away from the ‘Lamb Kofta and Chickpea Salad’ as well as the ‘Steak Sandwich’. Even though they are both flavoursome dishes, the portions are small. We had to order additional side dishes to satisfy our hunger.

SERVICE?

I’ve been there several times and found certain waiters to be very polite and helpful whereas some waiters are not quite so. It just depends on who is rostered on that day.

AMBIENCE?

Jones the Grocer is bustling with people having a break from shopping or just catching up with friends. Decor is modern and the outdoor area is perfect during Summer. Long communal tables add to the busy environment and fits well into the restaurant space but smaller tables are also available if you like.

VALUE?

Prices are standard but some of the serving sizes are a tad small.

BOOKINGS?

You probably don’t need to book unless you’re going with a large group of people but then again there’s no harm in calling ahead just in case.

Highlight – Convenient location

Lowlight – Quality of food

FOOD?

I was actually quite disappointed with the food at Capital Kitchen. Maybe my dad and I didn’t order the right meals – although I did find the meatball tortilla on the specials board. It was quite dry and probably could have done without the tortilla and needed extra sauce. Dad ordered the steak sandwich which was a let down too. It didn’t look appealing and it wasn’t all that satisfying either. If anyone has suggestions on what to order here I would be more than happy to give them another try!

I would be willing to give Capital Kitchen another go as Chadstone doesn’t really have a wide variety of cafes to offer but would definitely order something else from the menu. I’ll keep you posted!

SERVICE?

Nothing to look forward to in the service department. Orders are taken at the counter and there is not much interaction with the waiters. I think the staff could be a bit friendlier here.

AMBIENCE?

Capital Kitchen is located at one of the many entrances to ensure constant store traffic. Probably best for a coffee break from shopping rather than sitting down for a proper meal. I would recommend going to Jones the Grocer instead.

VALUE?

Similar pricing to the newer outdoor cafes around Chadstone which is slightly higher than the food court but I guess that is expected.

BOOKINGS?

Not sure if bookings are available here but don’t think it would be necessary anyway as you have to line up to order and pay at the register prior to eating.
